1. Make copies of all important documents. If you're traveling out of the country it's really important to make copies of your license/credit card/passports. Leave these locked in a safe place just in case you lose something traveling. You should also save the numbers on the back of your credit cards in case they are lost or stolen.2. Notify your bank and credit cards (that you plan to use) that you will be traveling. Nothing will put a stop to your vacation fun like an assumed fraudulent charge shutting down your accounts.
3. Pack outfits, not stuff. I just started doing this recently, and it's the best way to pack. Lay out your outfits for each day, including accessories and shoes. It helps with not over packing. You don't need to take 20 t-shirts, but if you don't lay out specific outfits you just might fall into the over packing trap.
4. Take snacks. Granola bars, nuts, etc. Traveling can be exhausting, and being hungry does not help when things are going less than smoothly. Make sure you stash a few things in your bag.
5. Make a list. I am a huger list maker (can you tell?!) I am notorious for forgetting things, which is where these handy lists come in. I write EVERYTHING down that I need to take with me even really obvious things, trust me you'll be happy you did. No one wants to forget their toothbrush or cell phone charger.
